Re: iTunes Plugin doesn't work any more

No problem. Just make a symbolic link called `iTunes Music Library.xml` pointing to the actual iTunes library. The symlink can live anywhere you like. Now point the Decibel plugin to the symlink. Works great.

Re: After Max/what are the alternatives?

Max still works fine for me so I don't see why an alternative is needed. But XLD is a somewhat similar free app.

Re: Max new version can't convert 24bit FLAC to MP3

I just hit a similar situation (Max can't deal with 24/96 flac). I think you'll find that XLD can convert these files just fine, though; that's how I handled it.

Re: Yosemite 10.10 Compatibility

Try moving OutputPreferencesView.nib from en.lproj to English.lproj. In fact, maybe move _all_ the contents of en.lproj into English.lproj. The fact that these two localization folders exist, both of them apparently for the English localization, looks like a bug to me.

Decibel 1.3 unusable: stops after first track

Just downloaded Decibel 1.3 (32). On a cue/flac pair (ripped from a CD), it plays the first track and then just stops. The pause button still shows, as if it thinks it's playing, but it's not, and the track suddenly takes on zero length in the display, as shown in this screen shot: Screen Shot 2014-...

Re: Encoder Settings Help

It changes the quality of the algorithm. Personally, though, I would use real AAC if I were you. HE-AAC is for live streaming.

Re: LAME 3.99?

Build Max from scratch, with the new lame library. Or, open the Max app bundle and drop the new library in, in place of the current one (easily found, in Frameworks).

Re: ALAC > AAC

Just want to mention that I have again recently encountered the ExtAudioFileSetProperty and have absolutely no idea what causes it or how to be sure of reproducing it. If a certain file causes it, it causes it consistently, but I don't know what it is about that file that's the problem or even what ...

Re: High bitrate conversions don't sound good

So, I converted a few FLAC files to AAC to test things out vs. the 192bps MP3 files that I normally use. The format setting is 3GP Audio Don't use 3GP! Use Apple MPEG Audio AAC or ALAC. AAC m4a, maximum, vbr is pretty good; ALAC (Apple Lossless) should be bit for bit identical to the FLAC (that is,...

Re: ALAC > AAC

You're not wasting _my_ time. (Can't speak for anyone else. :) This is a real problem. And you are doing valuable investigation here. And now that I think back, I had this same problem with some MP3s I downloaded - it was the only time I ever saw the problem. I examined their vital statistics and ul...

Re: ALAC > AAC

Then try _not_ doing it to an external drive. Or it may have something to do with your output file naming format. You see, you have to explain why you can't convert ALAC to AAC but I can, so we have to look for differences in our respective setups.

Re: ALAC > AAC

The problem is that both ALAC and AAC have the same suffix (.mp4). Thus there is no place to put the converted file, as it threatens to overwrite the original. Make sure that you have set up your preferences so that the intermediate and final files all go to different places (different from each oth...

Still using Max, still happy

Happy new year - I'm now using Max on Mavericks (OS X 10.9) and it's still working great. Many thanks for making this wonderful application available for free.
