Feature Request: Grouping

Would you consider adding "Grouping" to the metadata that Rip will accept, Stephen? It's not something I've used in the past, but I've noticed it recently in iTunes - don't know how long it's been there. Apple seems to use it as a standard field: it comes up by default in one of their new views, and...

Re: Rip vs. EAC

... I'm wondering how Rip compares ... Rip can consult the AccurateRip database, can't it? As I see it, the log, which you can save and look at, that says it has should be all the reassurance any of us needs, if the sound being OK weren't enough. ... and if it's worth switching ... I've never used ...

Re: Max: Current recommended secure ripping settings

oes Max offer the user information that the rip may not have been performed perfectly If you use Stephen's other ripper instead -- http://sbooth.org/Rip/ -- it will check against rips others have made using the AccurateRip database. However, it's still in beta. He has a note on the page saying drop...

The source you were reading is misinformed. The sound quality is identical.

Re: FLAC to AIFF coversion

I have used MAX to rip all of my albums in FLAC. I now want to convert everything to AIFF or Apple Lossless so that I can use itunes. You'd definitely be better off with Apple Lossless. AIFF is not appropriate for this. 1. Can I do the whole conversion in one shot? You should be able to point Max a...

Re: FLAC tags lost in conversion to MP3

I am converting tagged FLAC files to MP3. Two of the fields I use - Disc Number and Comment - are not being carried through on conversion. Other fields are successfully converted. FLAC uses Vorbis Comments. Unfortunately, Vorbis Comments are rather under-specified. I expect that's what's causing th...

Re: We need a Play iphone app!!

I wonder if Apple will add ogg vorbis support to Safari at some point. And here I'm thinking of the iPhone in particular. Now Firefox 3.1 apparently has native support via the HTML5 <audio> tag: http://mozillalinks.org/wp/2008/07/native-ogg-vorbis-and-theora-support-added-for-firefox-31/ I can see W...

Re: Choosing an AIFF type for output

1. There's two main choices, one from the Core Audio and one from libsndfile. Which one do I want? 2. In the Encoder settings, there's a drop-down menu. Choices. Same question: which? Use Core Audio. The other's likely there for backwards-compatibility, as it mentions SGI - are Silicon Graphics sti...

Re: error adding converted flac files (to apple lossless) to iTu

I see the thread: http://forums.sbooth.org/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=834&start=15 If I follow the thread correctly, it seems this is an iTunes problem and occurs with other software that interacts with it, too. You'll find the script in the application bundle. Right-click on Max's icon in the Finder and c...

Re: Fix for those wanting JPEGs in FLAC files

(Have a look at these forums Mike, http://forums.linn.co.uk/bb/index.php they are full of fun posts :D I think you wil find some of them intersting. Thanks for the link, Tom. I've got one or two Linn CDs. (No Linn equipment, though - it's too expensive for me!) So I can imagine their forums would b...

Interesting in rather a horrifying way for you, you knowing what you did I should think.

It was kind of interesting for me to look into, but what a lot of fuss when it can be accomplished as you show!

The latest unstable version is using 3.97. From the menubar:

Fix for those wanting JPEGs in FLAC files

It seems there's at least one FLAC player that needs the embedded cover art in a FLAC to be in JPEG format. Maybe anyone who needs that could submit it as a feature request here, so that Stephen could consider it: http://trac.sbooth.org/Max/ Anyway, what to do if you need JPEGs in there ... Here's w...

Re: Lame standard setup

Does the standard "transparent" setting mean "-V 2 --vbr-new"? Don't know about the "-new" switch. One FAQ out there says: The switch --vbr-new, which enabled a superior VBR mode in LAME 3.97 and some previous versions, is no longer needed with LAME 3.98 as it is now the default VBR mode. However, ...

Re: Which format is chosen for embedded coverart?

Maybe the embedding with .png explains why, cause Twonky only accepts .jpg as image format/suffix in order to show album art. Sounds like it, then. It's unfortunate - my guess would be PNG was chosen, because the FLAC site advises to use JPEG or PNG on account of compatibility. But from what you're...
