Re: MusicBrainz vs. FreeDB

What do you gain from using musicbrainz? why not use freedb? For a while it appeared that FreeDB was going away, hence the switch to MusicBrainz. FreeDB suppport is something that will be added back in at some point in the future. OIC. Well, MusicBrainz is growing steadily according to their statis...

It just doesn't add up that even if I cleanse that list of 16 steps of my failures, I can't get it down to the two: Choose song to start with, Play from there in correct order. <snip> Choose song to start with, Play from there on in the correct order. I was too lazy to boot back to Windows after my Girlfriends MSN sessions, and decided that it's time for some music...

I have a few suggestions, not in the order of importance: 1. A text-only interface would be supersweet. 2. There is a lot of wasted space on the layout. Only visible elements necessary are previous, play/pause, stop, next and searchbar. Optional display of cover art should be enabled from the menus....

Play was designed from the ground up to be a jukebox. It stores play counts, dates (and now ratings and skips) and has smart playlists to allow more flexible listening. All this is made possible by using its internal database. Bypassing the library would invalidate a lot of these advantages. I sugg...
