Re: Disc Drive for Max

What do want to do with that drive? Do you want to rip audio-CDs? Does the LG BE14NU40 play audio-CDs on your Mac? Is iTunes launched when you insert an audio CD? The LG BE14NU40 is an External Blu-ray Disc Writer. It seems to be only partially compatible with MacOSX. Look for drives that play audio...

Re: Decibel on an older Mac running OS 10.5.8

A Macmini1,1 can run OSX 10.6.8 (Snow Leopard). But I do not know if there is an older Decibel version that will run in Snow Leopard.

Re: Setting title and track number from file name in Tag

Tag 0.4.1 is a different application (confusingly, because it has the same name and is from the same developer). Tag 0.4.1 is software from sbooth.org (see "Tag" forum below) while this forum is for Tag from Feisty Dog software.

Have you tried to adjust the output file name (and path) in preferences to match your needs?

Re: Support Album Artist Tag?

I never used Album Artist, didn't even know that tag existed. Did you use the Album Name tag?

Re: Can't install Max

That is correct. There is no initial window or main window in Max. When you launch Max, its menus appear in the menu bar.

Re: Errors Using FLAC Spotlight Importer.mdimporter

Exactly what do you expect FLAC Spotlight Importer to do? It does not provide metadata, it does not add metadata to your flac files, it does not show the metadata. It only makes finding the imported files by metadata in Spotlight possible. Provided, of course, that the flac files contain such metada...

Re: Errors Using FLAC Spotlight Importer.mdimporter

The importer does not provide or show metadata. The importer makes metadata in the flac files available to Spotlight so one can do a Spotlight search for the imported flac files using data such as title, artist, album and genre. After using the importer it may take a while before the data are indexe...

Re: Errors Using FLAC Spotlight Importer.mdimporter

If you tried FLACImporter-1.1 (2009), try the later FLACImporter-10.6+ (2011, but confusingly also labelled version 1.1 because the source was not changed)

Re: Default Genre List

I suppose that Genre.string only shows how the genres are displayed in different localizations. If the file is localized, the genres will be displayed in the language of choice. (In none of the .lproj folders I checked, the file was localized.)

Re: Default Genre List

As far as I am aware, there are no "default" genres in Max. You can tag your music files with any genre description you like. The Genre.strings file only determines how a number of genres, the ones present in that file, will be displayed/translated.

Re: Yosemite 10.10 Compatibility

I wouldn't mess with the application package content. Nothing wrong with it. Will also spoil the code signature.

Seems to me more a problem with the preferences file. Try removing the file:
~/Library/Preferences/org.sbooth.Decibel.plist

Re: best encoding for iPhone (iTunes)

No other options that'll bring the sample rate down besides conversion to MP3? I really do not know if resampling as such can be done in Max. You may want to have a look at these alternatives: Audacity <http://audacity.sourceforge.net/> SoX <http://sox.sourceforge.net/> <http://www.waveformsoftware...

Re: best encoding for iPhone (iTunes)

Current iOS 7 does not support playback of 24-bit tracks with a sample rate above 48. Rumors were that Apple would introduce HD audio playback in iOS 8: http://www.macrumors.com/2014/05/13/hd-audio-ios-8-new-in-ear-headphones-lightning/ So far, Apple does not mention it in its iOS 8 preview: https:/...

Re: best encoding for iPhone (iTunes)

You can convert FLAC to Apple Lossless without any loss of quality. To select Apple Lossless in Max, go to Preferences > Formats, double-click in the list of available output formats "Apple MPEG-4 Audio", in the menu that will appear select "Apple Lossless", keep the suggested m4a extension, and cli...
