Re: Newbie Q: Windows files to MP3s?

I thought iTunes converts WMA to AAC (or whatever selected in preferences) on import?
This might only be on Windows, but I see no reason why it shouldn't work on OS X since it's the same code that makes both versions of iTunes.

Re: cant tag max converted apple lossless m4a files

Try pulling them throught iTunes and set one of the tags to something inconsequential.
iTunes will rewrite the file in the correct order, most likely enabling you to tag it properly.

Re: convert fails with "ExtAudioFileOpen failed: dta?"

I got the same error. It turned out I had a double set of the offending files. Example list of the files I was trying to convert: Tiësto - Elements of Life - 01 - Ten seconds Before Sunrise 2.m4a Tiësto - Elements of Life - 01 - Ten seconds Before Sunrise.m4a Tiësto - Elements of Life - 02 - Everyth...

Re: Album artist vs. Track artist

I made a bug about the same issue here: http://trac.sbooth.org/Max/ticket/72
It seems to me that the album artist tag is not used.
I'm ripping to ALAC and converting to AAC.

Re: Column identifiers used with NSTableView autosave feature

I experienced the same problem with 0.8b (build 1328). Build 1324 (7.2b) didn't work on Leopard.
Fixed it by deleting preferences manually from ~/Library/Preferences/
Thanks for the hint TOKIO.

Re: cleaning discs before ripping

I just used normal soap for doing the dishes and ample amounts of hot water. Worked perfectly, except in some rare cases it made the ripping harder due to the crud no longer filling up the scratches. I didn't take that good care of my discs when I was a teenager

Re: Question About Online Databases

A future version will probably offer a choice between MusicBrainz and Freedb. PLEASE! Please, plese. Please note that Musicbrainz already acts as a gateway to FreeDB. At least, Max sometimes give me data from FreeDB, and the FreeDB support is gone from Max, so... So no year, no genres (not a big de...

Freedb's genre information is notoriously sucky and you are better off just choosing one yourself.
If you have trouble choosing a genre, you can probably find the disc on discogs.com and they'll give you a really good idea of the genre.

2 quick things:
* Bit Rate works correctly with Max 0.7.2b (build 1206) (or maybe it's due to the next item)
* If you have ALACs without bitrate info, just change some tags in iTunes and it will be added automagically. This is new functionality since (I think) iTunes 7.1

Yes. It *clearly* gets data from freedb. Maybe it's Musicbrainz that falls back to freedb? Strange anyway... EDIT: After considering for a bit, I guess it must be Musicbrainz doing the tunnelling. They clearly have the capability with their 'FreeDB Imports' so I guess that must be the answer. It's j...

That certainly works.
I did notice that it was a menu, I just hadn't figured out how to use it.
Maybe it needs an extended menu or something? At least, I hope I'm not the only one thick enough not to realize how it works ;)

Good points. It would be nice to be able to have a different conversion default than encoding default, but I guess people rarely does both at the same time and it would clearly be the easiest and most logical.

When falling back to freedb, compilation detection broken

I put in a CD that wasn't in Musicbrainz and Max apparently falls back to Freedb (which is awesome, thanks!). The problem is that Max has stopped detecting compilations when getting data from freedb, meaning I have to separate out the artist and track names manually. I figure it's a simple if(data==...

I'm sorry, I'm not always good at explaining things. :x (Apparently you do not use the output file naming to organize the output in folders and subfolders but want the complete tag info in each separate file name? That will produce very long file names.) Yes, it does, but that's how I like it. I fin...

I've added some more logic to this. Now, if the output file is the same as the input file a new output file will automatically be created. So it won't be possible to delete the input file as you experienced. [imagine this is a thumbs up smiley] Another behavioral question that I came across while f...
